Had the pleasure and the treat of staying at the Crosby Street hotel for three weekends this spring. This is the hotel where they do everything right. The rooms are comfortable and large, especially for New York City. The windows are old massive floor to ceiling structures. The room can be as bright as you want and the shades and drapes allow you to make it as dark as you want. The decor in each room is different and very kitschy with colors galore. The designer of the hotel is also one of the owners of the hotel and she is the designer of all the Firmdale Hotels. The bathrooms are large and well appointed. There are British white porcelain pedestal sinks and the hardware is also from England. Everything else is marble. The shower is large. The products are delicious. The lighting is good. The hair dryers are powerful. The towels are nice quality and not dull, so they must replace often. I do not like that you cannot keep both bathroom doors open at the same time unless you use your husband’s shoe as a doorstop. They supply bottled water. It drives me crazy when a hotel does not..... especially when you are paying such prices. They allow little dogs which works well for me and they supply dog bowls. It is a very dog friendly hotel. The beds are very comfortable and the pillows and duvets are great. The best part is the cozy white coverlet over the duvet. The hotel restaurant is very, very good. I adore their breakfast and lunch. Dinner I remember being just ok. There is also a lovely comfy colorful library where you can just hang or read The Times or have a drink or a pot of tea. One more feature is the charming enclosed garden/patio space. It serves the same purpose as the library, but what a great treat on nice days. And let’s not forget the movie theatre on Sunday nights. The hotel is a little bit east of Soho although they do call it Soho. Personally I think the area is a bit on the dirty side. It is overrun with low class tourists on the weekends. The shopkeepers do not wash or even sweep the streets in front of their property. On a windy day, the garbage flies over the cobblestones like creatures from a movie.
