The city is HUGE. The only way to travel from area to area is via UBER. Very very inexpensive. I chose the Four Seasons Hotel because I did not know ANYTHING about DF (which is how Mexico City is known), and I figured the 4S is a safe bet and a good jumping off point. The room I had chosen, months before, while on the phone with the hotel was not the room they decided to give us. They "upgraded" us to a suite which was so NOT the room I wanted. The ceilings were low. It faced the street. The windows were small. It was dreary. After speaking with management they were able to "FIND" one of the rooms I requested. The room was large and airy. The ceilings were high. The windows were floor to ceiling and wall to wall. The French doors opened onto a Juliette balcony that faced the courtyard. (Pictured above.) Once we got over this, the hotel itself was a bit on the lower end of the Four Seasons group. The towels were ratty. The bathroom was OK. The bed was very comfortable. In the late afternoons, when we came back to the hotel, we either went down to the courtyard for drinks (great) and tapas (great) or we went back to the room and opened the doors and listened to the music while we read. There was always music playing. Sometimes Latin. Sometimes Classical. The location of the hotel was within easy walking distance to the museums only. (Everything else was Uber.) First we did the Museum of Modern Art. It was a joke and waste of time and money. Then we went to The Chapultepec Castle, above the city, and it was amazing. We found a guide outside and he made our day. The next day we went to the The Museum of Anthropology and it was incredible. The same guide joined us there. Big difference having a guide explain. The doormen at the hotel were very accommodating. The concierge was a ZERO. Made all of our own reservations. Their recommendations were fair at best. The Guest Relations Manager was lovely and she gave us some great restaurant recommendations. The food at the hotel was very good. The lobby areas were great for a coffee and the coffee was superior and strong. The restaurants in the city were incredible. The galleries in the Roma District were fun. You need to know where you are going. You NEED addresses. There are no signs on the buildings. You have to ring bells at very innocuous doors. The weather we experienced was A PLUS. Seventies and sunny during the day. No humidity. Cooler at night. My husband had a little problem with the altitude but the adjusted after 2 days. Drink a lot of water. City is high in altitude. It is definitely a "Go Back To City".
